I am getting sick and tired of the individuals that continue to put others at jeopardy by insisting on using their phones while driving. I understand the need to stay connected; however, there is a time and place for that connectivity. Texting while driving is insane and should be against the law period!
Using a cell phone to talk while driving should be avoided except in extreme circumstances. As I was driving down the freeway the other day I took notice again on how many individuals were using a cell phone not to mention the hands free users. I was surprised by the number I observed.
There are studies that show using a cell phone while driving is similar to driving while intoxicated. We would never knowingly allow someone that was drunk behind a steering wheel, why do we allow those that are driving to operate a cell phone?

Welcome to the blogosphere, Kory!! I have always enjoyed getting your thoughtful perspective on issues, and it is wonderful that you will share those perspectives more broadly through this blog.
I'd type more, but, well, I'm a little busy at the moment driving and playing the banjo.
I prefer to use a land line with a really, really long cord.
Mr. Holdway,
It is already against the law to cross the white or yellow lines, it is against the law to crash, it is against the law to speed, or tailgate or cause a hazard on the road.
If I can text, eat, read a book and comb my hair without being a risk, leave me the hell alone. I realize I cant so I dont, but good god, when did you become my mommy?
I disagree with the last comment. Just this last week I was driving and was almost side swiped by someone texting on a phone. I think this problem is not about leaving people's rights alone. It is about protecting.
Just this last week, someone was seriously injured because the driver was distracted by their phone. We hear about these cases constantly. I think it is insane that we don't have laws restricting this behavior! It is SO dangerous.
I'm sorry, but when mine and my families lives are at risk...along with thousands of others because of the use of an electronic device that is NOT NEEDED and SHOULD NOT be used while driving something should be done. I fully support making texting and talking on cell phones illegal while driving. If you have something that is so important to say or text...PULL OVER!
Dear Anomymous 1,
I'm not interested in being your mommy it appears that you have enough sense to be safe while driving; however, there are many on the roads that don't have that same sense or safety.
I COMPLETELY agree with you! Just recently a friend of ours was involved in an accident due to a teen texting on his phone. He has serious memory loss, and see's numerous dr's during the month. All because someone was texting and not watching the road. You're making a difference and I'm proud of you!
